Ezra (Bud) Brown ([email protected]) grew up in New Orleans and has degrees from Rice University and Louisiana State University. He has been at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University since 1969 and is currently Alumni Distinguished Professor of Mathematics. Bud is a frequent contributor to the MAA journals, having won the Pólya Award in 2000, 2002, and 2006. He enjoys singing (from opera to rock and roll), playing jazz piano, solving word puzzles, and, with his wife Jo, kayaking, bicycling, and birding.
